There are a lot of Star Wars YouTubers out there. Some are pure scum and villainy, others are nauseatingly uncritical, and most just aren’t very good.
Yet thanks to the quality of (almost) everything else out there, Star Wars fans can thank the maker for the YouTube channel So Uncivilised.
All eight of his Star Wars video essays (which I’ve compiled into a handy chronological playlist) look at the films with a level of respect for George Lucas – and what he managed to achieve – that many fans overlook.
This is someone who clearly understands screenwriting and filmmaking. Complex ideas are expressed clearly, backed up by relevant sequences from the films or interview footage, and every video on the original six films leaves you marvelling at Lucas’ body of work.
The video linked above is one of my favourite, and most re-watched, videos on the platform. Ostensibly about Return of the Jedi, it’s in fact much more about Luke Skywalker as a character and George “Luke S” himself.
If you’re new to So Uncivilized please do take the time to watch at least one of his videos. Even if you disagree with his point of view, you’ll still get to enjoy an incredibly well-made essay that leaves other Star Wars YouTubers for dust.
